CBD is popping up in everything from tinctures to smoothies and skincare—but does it really work? Guest blogger and CBD expert Maria Iannarino shares the science behind this magical little molecule—and why you should add it to your beauty routine ASAP.
CBD is being touted as a cure-all for a variety of woes, from sore muscles to dull skin. But does it really work or is it just another trendy ingredient? As Copy Director for Seventh Sense Botanical Therapy, I’ve gotten to learn a ton about the actual science behind this magical little molecule—and why it deserves a place in your beauty routine.
What is CBD?
CBD is a chemical compound extracted from the hemp plant—you’ve probably seen it popping up in tinctures, smoothies and even skincare. Hemp, unlike cannabis, cannot intoxicate you because it is extremely low in THC. In other words, it won’t get you high (even if you wish it would)!
How does it work?
CBD communicates with the nervous system through receptors in something called the endocannabinoid system. CBD molecules travel through the body through this system, which is responsible for unpacking all the benefits. With topical CBD, you are able to target these receptors specifically. Seventh Sense products combine the power of CBD with botanical ingredients like chamomile, arnica and more to help relieve, restore, comfort and soothe—right where you need it most.
How can CBD help with skin?
You may have heard that CBD can help with aches and pains (we’ve got a muscle balm for that!). But why is it popping up in so many beauty products? Part of the endocannabinoid system’s job is to help the body maintain homeostasis, or balance. That includes your body’s largest organ: Your skin! The Seventh Sense face care line boasts powerful amounts of CBD alongside other skincare superheroes like argan oil and vitamin E to help balance oil production, calm irritation, reduce redness and fight the signs of aging. Treat your whole body to a restorative soak in our CBD bath bomb and smooth and soothe from head to toe.
How to choose the right brand
When it comes to what goes on or in your body, ingredients matter. The market is becoming flooded with CBD brands who just want to capitalize on the trend and are making sacrifices when it comes to sourcing and quality. We wanted to stand out from the crowd with formulas so good, you’d want to use them every day regardless of their magic ingredient. Here’s what to consider when choosing a product that’s right for you:
- Make sure it’s good stuff. At Seventh Sense, we source 100% help-derived CBD from certified processors in the U.S. and can trace it back to the farm it came from.
- Safety first. All our products are rigorously testing for safety and efficacy.
- Keep your standards high. Seventh Sense is dermatologist-approved, non-comedogenic, cruelty-free and paraben-free. Our ingredients are natural, organic and sustainable whenever possible.
- Don’t sacrifice scent. Some CBD topicals smell like medicine, others smell a little too “natural.” Seventh Sense products all have soft scents made to mix, match and layer—even the muscle balm smells good.
Try it for yourself!
I can explain the science behind CBD and talk about the products all day, but the real convincing happens when people experience Seventh Sense for the first time. Now you can try it for yourself at all PENZONE Salon + Spa locations, as well as L I T Life + Yoga. To celebrate, I’m hosting a few pop-up events where I’ll be doing free demos, giving away samples and answering all your questions about CBD.
