Over the last year, we’ve been working on big innovation to support the education + training of our artists and therapists. This innovation starts at BASE ONE, the new concept powered by PENZONE, that helps people ground down + level up in careers and in their lives. This innovation continues in our salons.
ABOUT BASE ONE
BASE ONE is located adjacent to our PENZONE Salon + Spa Dublin, our flagship location. The concept is many things:

It’s a salon created to support our Hair Artists In Training as they fine-tune their skills. These hair artists are already licensed – joining us from either cosmetology school or with previous salon experience. The hands-on element at our new salon concept, paired with incredible mentorship + education, is the perfect combination for professional and personal development.
Best part? Services are offered at base price (more on that below!). Our Hair Artists in Training are supported by a Creative Educator who will be on location to be a go-to for any hands on technique assistance or color formulation.
Our New Artist Concept is all about co-creating right along with us. You may be prompted to complete a guest survey so that our artists can get feedback on their service techniques + your satisfaction with the overall experience.

WHAT YOU’LL SEE INSIDE OUR SALONS
INTERNS
For the first time ever, we’ve brought on summer interns! Twelve budding artists from cosmetology programs all across central Ohio have joined us to acquire 300 hours of hands-on experience with the goal of observing and learning from our experienced hair artists. How this translates to your experience: you just might see extra hands on deck during your appointment for shampooing, styling and a lot of observing!
APPRENTICES + MENTORS
This concept isn’t new to PENZONE. Specifically, it’s been part of our training for decades. You’ve likely often seen our Jr. Stylists assisting our Director or Senior Director hair artists. This type of hands-on experience and learning will continue. As part of their training, they’ll apprentice a handful of mentors at various locations throughout the company. Our apprentices are individuals committed to leveling up their knowledge and skills to provide the PENZONE standard of salon services.
The goal here is to learn from different types of Educators and to get acquainted at several salon locations. Likewise, this part of the path happens before their stop at PENZONE x BASE ONE to gain even more experience behind the chair before officially beginning their careers.
Our Apprentices are often the people greeting you in our welcome zones to guide you back for your appointment with your hair artist. And they’re always at the ready to assist their mentor, provide you with a relaxing shampoo experience in our lather lounges + help make sure your PENZONE visit is top-notch.
They’re often providing your shampoo experience. They’re soaking in all their learnings, stacking this with everything learned in Cosmetology School, and gaining the knowledge and skills needed to build a career as a hair artist. What a time!
